Mission

KAU’s Faculty of Liberal Arts and Science is designed to foster global citizens with a mature personality by helping them
to develop the critical and moral faculties required in the information society, to acquire the culture and knowledge required of
an intellectual to adapt to a highly advanced industrial society, and to acquire the culture and knowledge required of a reflective
and fully rounded personality. In addition, the faculty focuses on developing the students’ ability to reason
and understand so that they may acquire and utilize basic scientific and technological theories,
while awakening their intellectual curiosity in various academic fields and developing their ability to express themselves
and communicate with others so that they may contribute to the aviation industry and society as a whole.

Features of the School

The School of General Studies was initially founded in 1971 in order to provide a comprehensive liberal arts education to the students of the university. In the early years, the department offered such basic subjects as Korean, mathematics and English,
but the curriculum was eventually extended to physics and physical education with the passage of time.

The department was operated to provide an effective liberal arts education with the purpose of fostering university
students equipped with the culture and tools to study their major subjects by adding more compulsory subjects.
In the late 1990s, the departments of humanities and social science as well as natural science and engineering were added to the faculty. The curriculum has since been reshuffled to provide further opportunities for students to learn diverse foreign languages, including English, French, German, Japanese, and Chinese.

The faculty upgrades its curriculum every two years, steadily increasing the number of optional liberal arts subjects while reducing the number of compulsory subjects, although the students are still required to follow both the essential and elective subjects.
